Product Description:
What does the American Dream mean today? For Niko Bellic, fresh off the boat from Europe, it is the hope he can escape his past. For his cousin, Roman, it is the vision that together they can find fortune in Liberty City, gateway to the land of opportunity. As they slip into debt and are dragged into a criminal underworld by a series of shysters, thieves and sociopaths, they discover that the reality is very different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don’t.Beginning with the 1997 release of the original Grand Theft Auto, the GTA series has been one of the most prolific, controversial and down right entertaining franchises in video games history. This pedigree of success guarantees that the highly anticipated eleventh game in the series, Grand Theft Auto IV, will garner at least as much attention if not more.

Grand Theft Auto IV is a brand new adventure in the GTA universe following the experiences of Nikolai "Niko" Bellic, a new immigrant from an undisclosed eastern European country whose troubled pa st and the persuasion of his cousin Roman have brought him to the fictional Liberty City. Unfortunately, Niko’s search for the American Dream and a much needed fresh start, hits an immediate snag when the rags to riches story Roman spun to pique Niko's interest is exposed as not only a complete fabrication, but a ploy to enlist Niko’s well-known skills as a tough guy against the ample list of enemies clamoring for Roman’s debt-ridden blood.Because Roman is the only person Niko knows in Liberty City he begrudgingly accepts his role as Roman’s protector despite the deception. But as time goes on Niko comes into his own, and his experience on the wrong side of the tracks proves more valuable than he could have ever imagined as he fights for survival and later supremacy on the crime ridden streets of Liberty City.Game Environments
Based on several of the boroughs of New York City and parts of New Jersey, Liberty City, familiar to players of previous games in the series, has been entirely redesigned for GTA IV. Players can expect visible detail down to the weeds growing in the cracks in the sidewalk, cars and buildings of visibly different ages and a much greater level if verticality in the buildings and bridges that they are able to explore as Niko moves through the city streets. In addition, pedestrians in GTA IV are much more realistic. No longer simply moving cardboard cutouts, these NPCs are intelligent, modern, human representations that laugh, cry, eat, drink, use cell phones and ATMs, and talking amongst themselves regardless of Niko’s interaction with them.Gameplay
Historically GTA games have focused heavily on mission-based play, requiring successful completion of fixed tasks in order for players to progress through the game, but this has changed to a great extent in GTA IV. Players will experience an entirely new and exciting emphasis centered on the blending of on-mission and off-mission play, resulting not only in an increased sense of realism, but more interesting and unrestricted gameplay.Features
Aside from the car jacking and a detailed city environment here are the new features for GTA IV:
- Improved combat system - Now you can use cover and also a target lock system, which allows you to take out targets with greater ease and accuracy. Plus, you can engage in some hand-to-hand combat if you can't get your hands on a piece quick enough.
- Cell phone - Not just for basic phone calls anymore. Use your in-game cell phone to receive missions via SMS, snap photos, and ZiT (tag) songs that can be downloaded exclusively on Amazon.com/mp3.
- Free time - In between missions you can take advantage of "me" time. There are gentleman's clubs, comedy clubs, bowling alleys, and bars, which all house unique activities.
- Take a break from the storyline - A variety of side missions allow you to help run a car service, "borrow" cop cars, assassinate targets, help solve problems for those on the street, or take to the air with stunt jumps that are scattered all over the city.
- Control your own fate - Throughout the game choice moments will arrive causing you to make a decision that will affect relationships and money.
Give Niko a rest and create your own multiplayer "hero." GTA has added multiplayer modes allowing you to take your creation out to play online in competitive, co-op, and free form modes. Competitive mode has you fighting against the cops, jacking cars, or racing to finish odd jobs. Co-op challenges you and your friends with various tasks including Hangman's NOOSE where you are responsible for escorting a wanted kingpin to a safe extraction point. Freeform lets you and 15 others lose on Liberty City. Use this mode to hit up the bar and play virtual darts versus each other or head out to the streets and set up your own drag races. If you can dream it, you can do it in Freeform mode. ZiT: We'll Spot The Song For You
When playing Grand Theft Auto IV, if you hear a song that you are interested in buying as an MP3, all you have to do is dial ZiT-555-0100 on your in-game mobile phone and a text message will be sent to you with the name of the artist and the title of the track. The next time you log in at the Rockstar Games Social Club, you will find 30-second previews of all the songs you have ZiT'ed while playing the game. You can add them to your basket there and click to purchase at Amazon MP3, or you can find them all at www.amazon.com/gtamusic.

Customer Reviews:
Review on the goodies that you get with the game... By Dmitry Kristal
My review isn't about the game, but about what you get with the special edition:
Duffel Bag: Medium-Sized, black bag with a white Rockstar logo outside and a yellow-pattern lining on the inside...surprisingly very eye-catching design. This will make a great gym bag.
License Plate: Not as hard as the real license plate, but still sturdy enough to put on your wall or hit somebody with it.
Safe Deposit Box(with 2 keys): I'm very impressed with this item! I expected some cheap, easy-to-break deposit box, but it is very sturdy and hard to get into. I wouldn't trust my valuables with it, but its a nice box to use in your room to keep sensitive items away from other eyes. Somebody with a screwdriver and some time on their hands would be able to pry it open eventually, but still very stylish and modest safe deposit box.
RockStar keychain: 3-D letter "R" logo of Rockstar, which measues about one square inch.
"The Art of GTA" handbook: a very nice cloth hardcover booklet that shows how the game was made. Very interesting material inside.
"The Music of GTA4" CD: 16-tracks on this CD that comes with a carboard sleeve.
1 Free Month of XBOX Live! This wasn't listed as part of the offer, so I was surprised to see this. It is NOT A TRIAL and you can go to your Live account and simply add a month of XBOX Live Gold to your paid time.
Bottom Line: If you are a fan of GTA and have some money to spend, this is definetely worth an extra $30, especially with an extra month of XBOX Live included.Game of the Year? Can I get a hell yes? By Terrence Aybar
Packaging first:
You get the game itself, a small duffel bag, a small but informative hardcover art book, a cd with music selections from the game and my favorite item, a safety deposit box complete with a pair of keys and a cool Rockstar Games logo keychain. This in itself makes the special edition of GTA IV worth purchasing over the standard edition.
As for the game?
Consider me blown away. As if the movie quality story of the single player mode isn't enough, now you can experience the thrills and spills of Liberty City with 15, count 'em, 15 other people (a first for GTA games on consoles) and it's unlike any other multi-player experience I've ever had. From the moment I went online with this title, I was instantly won over by the sheer insanity on display before me. If you are familiar with the GTA series at all, then you already know how dynamic and unpredictable events can be. Now imagine what a room full of 16 people adds to that formula of uncertainty and you have in your hands a game that will give you hundreds of hours of gameplay in your future. The graphics and sound are a new benchmark for the series and the amount of detail in your surroundings is enough to make you want to stop and smell the roses. The soundtrack especially, is pure genius. If there's one nitpick to be made, it may be that the controls aren't pitch perfect (especially the cover system, which almost works in your enemies favor when you wind up taking cover on the wrong side of the wall you're against). Still, the controls are still pretty great in their own right, tiny quirks aside. You'll still be able to do just about everything you want to in the game.
Seriously, if this is the future of multiplayer and videogames in general, I'm almost afraid to see what Rockstar will serve us next. This game is a five star title all the way. The best part is that it lives up to all the hype that has preceded it and is without a doubt, money well spent.Endless Possibilities By D. Preciado
I am sure most people know and have heard of the Grand Theft Auto series. So skipping sraight to the point, this game is fun from the beginning and never stops. It builds from all the previous tittles and adds so much more details and realism its astonishing. Regardless if you like progressing through an actually interesting and engaging storyline(1st time for GTA) or creating havoc in Liberty City, you will not be dissapointed. Thats what everything boils down to. If you want to know about some "cool" (aka violent/destructive) things you can do, read on.
What brings this game to life is the amazing amount of detail. Just pay close attention and you will see civilians quarrel, car accidents happen, people being arrested, etc. all without the player having to do anything. In one instance, I recall accidentaly punching a female civilian only to have all the other civilians come after me, out. Outnumber I decided to run only to be chased by a small mob. So I decided to hijack a car. As I was getting into the car, one of the civilians I was being chased by reached in. I began to accelerate the car and the door slammed shut on the civilians arm clamping him to the door. When I noticed him dangling with him arm jammed in the door I decided to swerve next to a car. The civilian's body made impact with the oncoming car which succesfuly removed him from the car and splattered blood on the oncoming car's windshield. If you crash your car into explosives, you will see a beautiful slow motion view of your exploding car in midair. Its movie-like details that come to life that truly awe the player. And although this may sound too violent, etc. its the main reason people play GTA. open-end world. Aside from all the cool details one may discover through the game, the develepors also fixed many of the annoying details of past GTA games. Free im is now possible, the there is an enjoyable multiplayer, you cant dissapear from the cops simply by driving into a pay-n-spray, and many more. Parents, if the scene described above disturbs you, then go for mario kart. Everyone else, you will never run out of things to do, and the fun never stops. GTA IV is sanbox king.
