Customer Reviews:
Bravo! Amazing Game & Excellent Hardware. By J. Figueroa
I will start by reviewing the game itself, not the arcade stick...MK 2011 goes back to its roots, bringing all the gore and grusome fatalities that fascinated me as a kid during the arcade era. The game plays smoothly and wihtout any frame rate issues, as others have mentioned. I currently play on an Xbox 360 Slim, HDMI connection with a 55' Samsung LED. All in all, a beautiful game, each level/arena is rich with details and animations. The characters new look and damage are superb, again, the graphics and detail are great. I have both PS3/360 versions of the game, and if you must know, THEY LOOK THE SAME GRAPHICS WISE. Some have claimed that the 360 version lacks luster and suffers from frame rate issues, well, this is a lie. Both games perform great.
The voice work, as always, is top notch, nothing beats the old school "Finish Him!!" If you are familiar with MK, you'd know by now what The Krypt is, if you don't, well, it is where you can spend the coins/cash you earn from fights, challenges, story, etc. There you select from a great number of tombs for coins, and unlock art, costumes, etc.
As you all know, the 360 version did not get an exclusive character, but don't blame the developers, they actualy wanted and were thinking about a 360 exclusive character, but they were not allowed to do so. Visit gameinformer for more info. Anyway, Kratos is awesome and using him does not get old. I can't complaint about him and I don't think anybody can. He fits perfectly in the MK universe.
Multiplayer online is better on Xbox Live hands down, PSN is good, but not as great. Show me somebody who does not agree with me and I'll show you a PS3 fanboy. Let's give credit where is due and honestly.
Now, the arcade stick....WOW. I was amazed at the quality of it, heavy, sturdy, well designed and put together. Made in china, but well done. The top has a nice glass-like finish to it, to protect the art from being ruined. The buttons and stick feel and respond great. They are fully customizable and can be replaced, by simply opening the arcade stick cabinet and removing the screws that hold the clear housing where all the wires are. I ordered a second one today from a different website, I like it that much that I'm coughing up the extra dough for another stick. Perfect item to have. BTW, I tried with Super Street Fighter and it worked perfectly. Strangely though, it did not work with Mortal Kombat Vs. DC, I could not pull any combos or special moves, it would only recognize whatever button combo I pressed last, making it impossible to perform complicated combos, or any at all.
NOW, THIS IS IMPORTANT, REGARDING OVER PRICED ARCADE STICKS BY SELLERS HERE.
Do not be fooled, even if you didn't have the chance to pre order the Tournament edition, you can still buy the EXACT SAME arcade stick from PDP, go to their site and you'll see that they have it in stock. It isn't cheap, I'll tell you that, because with taxes, it'll cost ya, almost as much as the one sold with the game. By the way, PDP sells it, WITHOUT the game. Anyway, if you do want an arcade stick and don't want to be ripped off by any of the sellers here, check PDP out.Nostalgia updated in all the right ways By B. Knight
Lets be clear, I loved this game when I was younger. This version reminded me of mortal kombat II updated with more moves, combos and looks amazing.
The best thing for me is the controller. This board with the tournament edition is incredibly made and really made me feel like I was back at the arcade. I highly recommend this to any fan of fighting games, particularly MK fans.$150? WORTH IT. By Joe Francis
Yup. This is my first 'special edition' I've ever purchased brand spankin' new. It's flurpin' perfect. My only negative is I think the truth was stretched a bit with the announcement that "only 10,000 of the Tournament Editions will be available in NA".
Either way, the stick itself is simply brilliant. It's my first home fight stick, and I'm proud to own it. It feels exactly like the sticks they used back in the day. The first time I sat down at it, I was instantly flooded with nostalgia...the perfect combination of having a real arcade stick (BAT NO BALL!) and the absolute perfect version of Mortal Kombat as well as it feeling like the early MK games...man...just bliss.
So the stick feels and looks perfect, it's extremely comfortable with the memory foam underside, it's customizable, you can store crap inside of it....what else is there to say about it?
On to the game.
Man, I'm a laze review writer. It's three am right now, and I'm just going to say this:
Mortal Kombat is the best fighting game ever created.
