Excellent Game with 3 DLCs By Robert
I traded in my old Skyrim for the new Legendary Edition. I prefer to have the game with the latest patches along with all of the released DLCs on disc just in case my Xbox 360 crashes. It took me only about 10 minutes to install all 3 DLCs, much faster than downloading and installing them. The game does not come with a manual but a link to download it is provided. A large foldable paper map of Skyrim and a button layout pamphlet is included. I highly recommend the Legendary Edition especially if you have limited or no internet access and do not have the DLCs already.Minor Nitpicks By R. Kaufman
While I DO love Skyrim (the first release got me through a bad break up), there were, of course, glitch problems. While the Legendary Edition has added a wealth of new quests and I almost feel like I'm playing it again for the first time, the radiant quest system is still a bit of a bother.
MINI SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER PLAYED.....
For example, I get a Thieves Guild quest to loot a house in Whiterun that was destroyed in the Siege of Whiterun. There are still quests that glitch if you pick up an item before you get the quest. (Roggveir's Amulet of Talos, being one)
I also experienced a glitch in the Peryite quest which never happened in the first edition.
Lastly, there are still frequent incidences of the game freezing up.
All in all, it's still a terrific game and I'm not writing this to suggest anyone not buy it. I just wish Bethesda had done a little more to fix these items since I paid $60 for Skyrim back in 2012 and just spent another $60 for the Legendary Edition. I originally bought this game for the PS3 on release, having played The Elder Scrolls III and IV as well. As most people now know, the PS# edition was plagued by bugs and other noticeable hiccups: walking through the world for 10 minutes would bring about a hundred frame rate drops, the occasional 10-second freeze, and the awkward glitches that sent characters flying through the air or disappearing entirely. I was disappointed and was not able to get very far in the quest. Since then, I'd picked up an XBox slim and was able to buy the XBox version of the game. I'd heard that a few patches had been released that helped to fix the bugs on all platforms, but I decided to stick with this edition instead. As most people will tell you, the XBox version is far superior to the PS3 counterpart, and I'd have to agree. Keep in mind, that's coming from someone who is an avid PS3 lover. Playing this on the XBox is like night and day: no hiccups, no quest-ending glitches, and no drastic drops in frame-rate. My recommendation is that, if you have both systems, pick up this version. The bugs on the PS3 version are enough that it draws away from the overall enjoyment of the game.
Now, as far as the actual game goes, I can't emphasize enough how amazing it is to play this. To me, this is what video games are meant to be: I'm not a die-hard gamer, but would often find myself investing hours of my time in any given sitting to completing a quest or just exploring the enormous world. On the original games release, it was met with exceptional reviews, and I'd have to agree. Now, in addition to the grand scope of the original game, they've added two VERY large add-on pieces and minor upgrades. You just put the second disc in your system, wait about 10 minutes for these aspects to be installed, then you put "disc one" in and you're good to go: no need to touch the second disc again unless you accidentally uninstall the add-on content. And if you've already played this game, installing the content with a save file on your system already just adds the add-ons and you continue where you were, as if the features had always been there.
I'm not one to go on about the intricacies of a game or attempt to convince you that you MUST buy it, but with the end of this generation of gaming consoles drawing near, it's good to look back and pick the best games to come about over the system's last 8 years. Skyrim definitely ranks up there as one of this generation's best, and while it might not stand the test of time as "best game ever," the sheer size of the world and amount of things to do give it a compelling argument.
If your a fan of epic games/movie/books,and you enjoy being engrossed in the lore of a work in any of those mediums, do yourself a favor and pick up this version of this game.
