Best arcade stick in this price range By C.B. Nimmo
The Hori Fighting Stick VX is probably the best bang for the buck in the under 100 dollars price range. It has a six button layout and square gate joystick. These are not "real arcade" parts like Hori's more high dollar line of products or the Mad Catz TE sticks but they are very good, especially considering the low price. The stick is designed to work for Xbox 360 but it will also work with Windows PCs so you can play games with it in programs like MAME and GGPO.

It may not be the best stick in the world but it's well worth the money and is relatively upgradeable. Modders may want to know some of the following: Underneath the hood this stick has common grounding and two separate PCBs, screw holes pre-drilled for mounting a custom stick, with all the buttons and wiring well labeled. There are no QDs (quick disconnects) to the buttons so the user must use soldering to add new buttons. However no case modification will be necessary as the holes for the buttons are already the standard 30mm in size and the screwholes are drilled and ready for a mounting plate for custom arcade sticks like the famous Sanwa JLF. This means besides soldering, this is basic drop-in installation with only very, very minimal to no fitting required (depending on the type of joystick you plan to replace it with, none for buttons.) It has plenty of open space inside as well, unlike previous lower budget Hori sticks.

In my opinion the joystick is great, and the buttons are OK. They are 30mm diameter and convex shaped, set in a curved layout. They are more than serviceable but since I'm picky, I will probably eventually replace them with Sanwa buttons as these stock ones are a little stiff. The stick I will probably leave as is, as I haven't had any real problem with it yet. It seems very responsive and I like the square gate.

Some other features to go over: This stick has turbo switches if that's your thing. Every button has its own turbo switch and three settings: off, 10 times/second, and 20 times/second speeds. It has start and back buttons on the top, as well as LB and RB buttons (though these will essentially be useless in gameplay as they are on the top of the box, and these buttons are not turbo enabled.) The stick is compatible with Xbox headsets as it has a jack on the bottom for Microsoft's XBL headset (it is not a standard 3.5mm jack.) The plug-in on this thing is via USB cable, as said this will work on both Xbox 360 and PC. The cord has an inline release installed; this means if the cord is yanked or tripped over, it will safely disconnect instead of pulling your console/computer off the shelf and minimizes the chance of damage to the cord as well. Pretty neat feature.

All in all this is well worth the money and probably the best stick for someone just getting into fighting games and not ready to drop the larger amounts of money that higher quality sticks cost. It's one of the cheapest options available and unlike cheaper options this one has some room for modding and upgrading so the player can replace the stock parts with higher quality custom ones down the road if they decide to dedicate to it. It is also higher quality in construction, fit and finish than other similarly price and lower priced arcade sticks with far more room for modification.

P.S. - I'm not sure what the other reviewer meant by this game not working with Pac-Man, I have tested it on the latest MAME using Windows XP and it works fine. The problem might be that he or she is not accustomed to the square gate on the joystick. Many American arcade machines had octagonal restrictor gates installed, but the Japanese standard is square gates. Some people find when switching to square gates after having played octagon gates all their lives, it can be a bit different. But after a little bit of play they should easily acclimate.

Bang for Your Buck!! By Monkeyodor
I own the PS3 Fighting Stick V3 and love it!! So I recommended this stick to a friend of mine who only has a 360. My friend loves fighting games but played them on pad controllers. Since I introduced him to arcade style sticks he has fallen in love with them. He really likes the response of the stick and buttons, and the turbo functionality. The weight is nice and light making it easy to transport and the sleek design and six button layout give it the comfort and accessibility to execute moves much smoother.

My friend loves the quality of the stick but loved the price even more!! For an affordable price of $69.99, I feel that you definitely get more bang for your buck when you purchase this item!! Good stuff!!6 of 7

My first fight stick! By ryuken-ta7
First off, I like to say that the Fighting Stick VX is the first stick I've ever owned and I really love it! Design is very sleek, commands are easy to input, and honestly the price alone is very attractive! I'm an amateur at Street Fighter IV: AE but this stick allows me to play like a pro!

Pros: Sleek design, sturdy exterior, turbo function, and of course AFFORDABLE!

Cons: Nothing so far! Nice job HORI!
