Very similar to the original, with revamped graphics, a different level up system which in my opinion, it's too convoluted. No jump button unless prompted on screen. Dodge/dash technique that must be used especially in boss battles. Legend mode is quite faithful to the manga/anime. Lot's of dialog from Kenshiro ( so far) and cutscenes are a mix of motion video and slides with voice over and some effects ( sounds lame but is pretty well done). It's pretty good to walk along from fight to fight along Rin and Bat as the go into a corner to let you bash guys. Sometimes you gotta protect them. Mind you, I have only played Legend Mode, up to where Kenshiro Meets Rei and Mamiya. There are instances before fights that you can choose who to be...and the cpu controlled characer actually fights this time, unlike Ken's Rage 1.
Finishing moves are FAITHFUL to the manga and they require one or two button presses as a quick time event. Its quite great if you have seen the manga...there's no more button patterns to press to finish them off. It's weird but some of these quick time events dont seem to have any bad consequence if you dont press the button on time...the scene just stops there until you press the button command. I have no problem with that, yet I dont know if those instances should be called quick time events. There are some interesting twist on these OTE regarding boss battles and they add some variety to the game, which is go to an area, kill all enemies, cutscene...repeat.
Strange fight with Devil Rebirth, but the finisher is really good.
There's Dream Mode, Gallery , online co-op, but I havent tried those. The fighting is fast and bloody, and the cutscenes at least in Legend Mode are plenty. They replace all that running around in a bland looking stage just to get from place to place. There is less running around and the stages look nicer and different than Ken's Rage 1.
The voices are Japanese with subtitles...dont know if you can unlock the option for english language. I like the japanese voices better so this didnt bother me at all.
There are some glitches in some cutscenes, but nothing major. The camera can be your enemy, especially when walking in narrow areas. And yes, you fight indoors, day and night. I love the bar fight. Something that bothers me is that in missions, you get an amount of enemies to trounce but sometimes as you are running toward them, enemies pop in outta thin air. It's kind of annoying. Maybe it will be fixed. Enemies look a bit polished from Ken's Rage 1, but they are all pretty much the same. But who cares! They all looked pretty similar in the anime, at least! Of course, the main villians and other characters look really great.
The music is pretty much the same from Ken's Rage 1. I've only heard one or two different tracks. I dont care for this, because I like hard rock and metal and I really liked Ken's Rage music. I hear it every day, especially the metal version of FOTNS main theme, Ai wo Torimodese. I am hoping to hear a metal version of either Kill The Fight, Silent Survivor or Tough Boy once I reach the Land of Shura levels.
So, if you like Fist Of The North Star, get it.
If you like Dynasty Warriors button mashing destroying hordes of enemies, get it and watch the anime.
If you like Ken's Rage 1 - definitely get it.
oh, and no more technique anouncements every time you do a signature move...it's reserved for special instances in the game and its incredible.
Last but no least, ATATATTATATATTATATATATTATATATATTATATTATATATTATATATTATATATTATATATTATAT WAAAHTAHHH! ( Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken) all 100 cracked fists to your face.

OK, I have played Legend Mode up until when Kenshiro meets Ryuga the Lone Wolf Star..
So far, the game is still fun, repetitive, but fun. Again, I am a Hukuto No Ken fan and it's my favorite anime / manga of all time, so I may be biased and I do not mind playing and listening to the story for the 400th time. Man...there are a lot of cutscenes stylized as if you were reading the manga (yep, from right to left). If you are just curious about Ken's rage 2 and haven't read the manga or seen the anime, then this game got you covered! it does have plenty of the story covered! Im amazed, since Ken's Rage 1 had the most important parts of the story. KR 2 goes beyond the important parts and delves into the story. It's really enjoyable to see all these characters rendered graphically ina very faithful way. The many cutscenes help the player see Kenshiro's transition from a somewhat kind mannered good guy, to a ruthless killing machine good guy. Cool stuff.
I wonder how much data can a disc hold!! there is a lot of voice acting and decent looking videos. And this is all REALLY faithful to the manga. On a side note, Shuu is flippin' awesome to use.
Some graphic hiccups here and there, but at least to me they are no biggie, except the "popping outta nowhere enemies" issue that I mentioned earlier in the review. I'ts no longer a quick review.
I havent been able to play online yet. No matches found. I own a Wii U and the game is up for download, for a whooping 12 gb of space. I rather have a physical copy...

If you like Dynasty Warriors hack and slash and like violence, but have no clue about Fist Of The North Star, get it and you will know the whole story.(watch the anime anyway).The true successor to Hokuto Shinken By Suyo
For people who hate the Dynasty Warriors games and what they offer, you should navigate away from this page now, this game is not for you. This review is from the perspective who is a fan of Hokuto no Ken but more importantly a fan of Dynasty Warriors. This game recycles assets and offers a similar experience to the first Hokuto Musou, but a host of improvements to the core gameplay and the game's structure make it a worthwhile purchase for those who enjoyed the first title to the fullest.
The familiar Dynasty Warriors gameplay is unchanged here. Legend Mode, like in the prior title, is a very linear and instanced affair. More like Ninety-Nine Nights than Dynasty Warriors, players move from one location to the next after defeating the requisite number of enemies. What's great about the updated Legend Mode is the accurate and detail with which it addresses the source material. Many more arcs and details from the original manga are preserved in this iteration of the game, making it a far more enjoyable experience for those who want to go through the story of Hokuto no Ken once again. Additionally, the frustrating post-boss battle all-or-nothing quicktime events are gone, replaced by far more simple button presses for cinematic purposes. I think it's a vast improvement that the game does punish players so harshly for missing a button press.
The game's Dream Mode offers the far more familiar Dynasty Warriors gameplay which allows players to strategies and approach the levels in a non-linear fashion. There's a lot of content in Dream Mode and all of it is in line with the expectations of Dynasty Warriors fans.
The core gameplay improvements are worth mentioning and make going through the game's huge amount of content a far better experience. The gameplay speed has been accelerated, making execution a little bit more important. The first Hokuto Musou empowered players with a more methodical and slow gameplay style that resembled games like God Hand, allowing for creativity in terms of combos. That feel remains intact, but at a higher speed.
The online play is a nice addition, but to this date I haven't been able to successfully use the matchmaking to get a game - so it's certainly not a selling point.
Ken's Rage 2 is a title for fans of the series who know what they are getting into. However, as a fan, I have trouble seeing how anyone who knows what to expect would walk away unsatisfied.Divine Fist of the North Star By ILL GREEN
It was back in 1988, at a New York comic book convention where I first saw the japanese trailer of the original Fist Of The North Star movie. Heads exploding, dudes chopped into piscasso art, dazziling motion effects... it blew my 12 year old mind. I remember thinking that it was a Double Dragon movie but the guy running the trailers, said thats that Fist Of The North Star. Been a loyal follower ever since.
Enough fanboy talk, time for a review.
This is better than the first one. It follows the manga comic faithfully, except they changed Spade to weld clubs(???) instead of his iron bear claws and Diamond (Joker on steroids) is absent and few other changes but really follows the story of Ken so well. Its like the first Ken's Rage but the controls are smoother this time, I like that they removed the jump function, I prefer to fight on my two feet and I'm sure Kenshiro does too. You do jump but when prompt to, like jumping over fences or over buildings or to just gain enough height to knock a giant like Devil down. The fighting is like the last one but this is better to digest. Hundreds of thugs and murderers come at you and with the right combo you can annihilate the whole lot sending them back to hell. I love it really; relieves stress when you can slaughter of gang with your bare fists. Boss battles are not too complicated. Just time their attack, dodge and counterattack to leave them open for a signature move, AAAAAAAAAHHH tatatatatatatatatatata ATTAH!! Whats even cooler you get to kill the main bosses in the same fashion as in the manga comics by going into quick-time events and hitting the right buttons to execute brutal death.
I played the first one for a brief stint and never completed it because it was so boring, but this is very interesting and true to the manga that I'm still playing it for the fourth week now and I haven't completed it yet. The game is huge. The graphics are much better than before, characters look filthy and rugged. Backgrounds are nice too, not the same old desert look as some claim, you go into industrial factories, castles, barren cities, army bases, towns and they look like straight out the anime. Japanese voices are excellent with english subtitles and I prefer to the original voices than an english overdub. Let me tell you english can't do Fist Of The North Star any justice, it really dumbs the intense story. Watch the movie in english dub first then change it to japanese and read the subtitles and you'll see the difference and you appreciate the story even more.
This is for the fans indeed and if you looking for a brawler, you should try this. Other than that I can't recommend this to Halo and COD fanatics, but if you enjoy manga and the Hokuto Shingen world, this game has it all.
